Nutrition Update
Clients are constantly asking me for nutritional advice. Why do most people
still have no idea what to eat when they want to be healthy? What is a good
breakfast? What can I eat for lunch? Why do I keep gaining weight when I eat
really well?
It absolutely amazes me that our society either has no clue
or just does not care to learn about proper nutrition. I am really not an expert
in the field but I do have common sense. I read labels and I make it a point to
learn about what some of those long ingredients are and why they are in my food.
So let's get right to it.
Breakfast can be anything. We classify things
as breakfast foods such as bagels, muffins and cereal. Wash it down with a glass
of juice and look at all the sugars we just ingested. No wonder we would be
starving before we get to lunch. White flour and processed carbohydrates mixed
with water equals paste!!! Not much nutritional value here. Lunch is the usual
deli cold cuts on a roll with a bag of chips washed down with a diet soda. I
just want to cringe. And follow that up with a meat and potatoes dinner and we
wonder why we continue to gain weight and rot our insides.
We are
literally eating ourselves to death! Food is our fuel! We hear how bad steroids
are for your body, yet we continue to eat meat and drink milk from hormone
injected cows. We know how toxic chemicals can be but we continue to eat food
with filled with them. Let me give you some examples. Bromated flour is
artificially aged and treated. Partially hydrogenated oils, a trans fat that
can't really be broken down by the body is in almost everything. It helps to
prolong shelf life and give texture to foods. Artificial sweeteners like
saccharin and aspartame have been known to cause cancers in animals. I know the
doses were high in these studies but I still do not believe it is healthy for
humans. A diet soda a day adds up!!
So what are we to do? Educate
yourself. Socrates once said, "There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil,
ignorance." If you are reading this you obviously have access to the internet.
Research and learn! I truly believe that so many of the items sold in the
typical supermarket are toxic. Whole Foods Markets or most health food stores
can give you much better options. There are healthier cereals out there. Buy
soymilk and start enjoying soy products. Look for organic fed meats. You can buy
deli meats not treated with chemicals. Eat more veggies, whole grains, and
different kinds of beans. Just because it says fat free, does not mean it is
good to eat. Cut out the white processed flour and the low nutrient based foods
and watch your body change.
Again, all of this is based on my own
research and common sense. I have seen clients make these dietary changes and
seen the amazing results. Please email me if you have any questions or comments. |
